Ultimate Crab Bake
Just got some of our freshly picked crab meat? Try this crab bake from NC Sea Grant’s Mariner’s Menu as a warm and delectable appetizer for your table.
INGREDIENTS
1 pound backfin crab meat
2 tablespoons butter
½ cup onion, finely diced
¼ cup celery, finely diced
½ cup bread crumbs
1 cup heavy cream
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon dry mustard
½ teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
¾ cup bread crumbs
2 tablespoons butter, melted
STEP-BY-STEP
Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet. Sauté onion and celery until tender. Add ½ cup bread crumbs, cream, cayenne, garlic powder, mustard, salt and egg. Mix well. Gently fold in crab meat, being careful not to break meat apart.
Divide mixture between 6 lightly greased ramekins. Combine melted butter and ¾ cup of bread crumbs and sprinkle over ramekins. Bake at 375° F for about 20 minutes, until lightly browned.
